Consultant Medical Oncologist
I am a consultant Medical Oncologist based in Manchester UK. I have an NHS practice at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and see private patients at The Christie Private Care and The Richmond Suite at The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle. In addition I see patients on an ad hoc basis in London at The Harley Street Clinic.
I graduated in Medicine from the University of Glasgow in 1988 and after working as a junior doctor in the UK, spent four years in Australia, working firstly in General Medicine and then latterly at advanced trainee level in Radiation and Medical Oncology in Sydney at St George Hospital. After returning to the United Kingdom, I completed Specialist Training in Medical Oncology at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds. I was appointed to the post of Consultant Medical Oncologist at The Christie Hospital, Manchester, UK in 2002.
As a member of the Breast and Colorectal Cancer Groups at The Christie, I am closely involved in the Breast and Colorectal Cancer Research Programmes and am principal investigator in national and international trials at The Christie.
With my colleagues in Interventional Radiology I set up and am Lead Clinician for Selective Internal Radiation Therapy for liver tumours and the targeted liver tumour programme at The Christie. SIRT is and effective and licensed treatment for any tumour in the liver from any source and we have treated many colorectal and breast cancer patients with secondary tumours in the liver.
I am an educational supervisor within the junior doctor programme and a lecturer in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes through the University of Manchester and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
My areas of special expertise are breast and colorectal cancer and targeted liver therapies.
I have a particular interest in treatment of secondary cancer in the liver and believe in personalising care to the individual patient and their needs.
